Custom Library Trolley Case Study: A Multi-SKU OEM Programme in South Korea
Custom metal trolleys · OEM manufacturing · Ongoing programme since 2024 · Ningbo, China

The Challenge
Library trolleys look simple, but they are used hard and seen constantly. They carry stacked books, are pushed by staff all day, and sit in public spaces where finish and appearance matter as much as strength. CNCLIB needed a trolley that could:
- hold a realistic book load without sagging or twisting,
- roll quietly and smoothly on library floors,
- look clean and modern in a public reading environment,
- be offered in several models and sizes so the same programme fits different library layouts,
- be supplied repeatably — same finish, same geometry, same quality on every reorder.
How the Programme Developed
The programme was shaped collaboratively: CNCLIB shared market and user requirements, and our engineering team proposed and prototyped material and structural options. Three distinct stages:
- Stage 1 — All-iron trolley
The starting point was a fully iron construction. Strong and straightforward to produce, but heavier than ideal for daily handling in a library, and visually heavy for a public reading space.
- Stage 2 — All-aluminium trolley
To explore weight reduction, we developed an all-aluminium version. Aluminium brought the weight down noticeably, but stiffness over long shelf spans needed careful engineering, and the cost profile moved in a direction that made volume orders less attractive.
- Stage 3 — Steel-tube frame + aluminium shelf panels (current)
The solution adopted for the current range combines the best of both: a steel-tube frame for structural strength and weld integrity, with aluminium shelf panels to keep the trolley light and easy to move. This hybrid structure is now the platform for the whole multi-SKU range.

Finishing and Colours
The programme started in a clean white finish. As the range grew and moved into more varied library interiors, we added a black-grey colourway, giving customers two established options to specify from. Both are produced to the same repeatable standard, so a reorder matches the original.
New Development: H-Type Large Trolley
Building on the platform, we are developing an H-type larger-capacity trolley, aimed at heavier book loads and larger library environments. It extends the same design language — steel-tube frame, aluminium panels, the established colour options — into a higher-capacity format.
Current Specification Highlights
| Structure | Steel-tube frame with aluminium shelf panels |
| Range | Multi-SKU — several trolley models and sizes within one programme |
| Colours | White and black-grey (two repeatable colour options) |
| Application | Library book trolleys, public reading environments |
| Market | South Korea — OEM for a library-equipment brand / dealer |
| Wheels | Quiet-running casters selected for library floors and daily use |
| Status | Ongoing — repeat production plus a new large-format model in development |
What This Programme Shows
This is a clear illustration of how we work with OEM customers over time, rather than one-off quoting:
- Material engineering, not just manufacturing. We compared all-iron, all-aluminium and hybrid structures against the customer’s real requirements and recommended the steel-tube + aluminium combination as the best balance of strength, weight and cost.
- One programme, many SKUs. A shared structure and finish standard across multiple trolley models keeps repeat ordering consistent and manufacturing efficient.
- Controlled revisions. Drawings, finish and colour are managed, so an order placed today matches the first production run — essential for a brand that repeats orders into library projects.
- Long-term partnership. From 2024 to now, the relationship has grown from a single model into a multi-model programme including new large-format development.
Where These Trolleys Are Made
Every trolley in this programme is made in our own factory in Ningbo, China — not sourced from a third party. Sheet metal cutting, tube work, bending, welding, powder coating and assembly all happen under one roof, which is why revisions, first-article approvals and repeat orders can be controlled this tightly.
1 · Laser cuttingSheet and plate parts cut to drawing — shelf panels, gussets, brackets and mount plates.
2 · CNC bendingPress-brake forming for trays, upstands and shelf returns, held to repeatable angles.
3 · Frame weldingTube frames welded in jigs, with distortion control so the frame stays square and the shelves sit flat.
4 · Powder coatingPre-treatment and powder coating to give a durable, even finish in white or black-grey.
From Our Floor to Your Container

Institutional orders ship packed for container loading, with loading plans prepared in advance. If a programme is sensitive to volume, we can also look at knock-down or nested variants that pack more units per container — a conversation worth having early, because it changes the landed cost.
Certifications and Compliance

- ISO 9001 — quality management system certification (CQC).
- SGS report — independent inspection report covering our sheet metal fabrication.
- CE — declaration of compliance for European-market supply.
- RoHS — restricted substances compliance.
- Verified supplier — audited on Made-in-China.
Note on scope: certificates are issued to the manufacturing entity. Tell us the standard or document set your compliance team needs and we will confirm what applies to your specific trolley configuration.
Working With Us
We are a factory, not a trading company. For library and institutional trolley programmes we support:
- OEM / private label with customer branding, logo plates and branded packing,
- development from a photo, sample or drawing, including material selection advice,
- samples and first-article approval before mass production,
- repeatable multi-SKU programmes with controlled revisions,
- export packing and loading coordination for institutional deliveries.
Payment terms: we work on T/T with payment before production and balance before shipment. We are not able to offer L/C terms, so if L/C is a hard requirement for your company, please tell us at the start and we will be straight with you about whether a programme is a fit — it saves us both time.
Have a trolley programme to develop?
Send a drawing, a photo or a sample, or just describe the load, the aisle and the environment. We will review it, come back with what we would change for manufacturability, and quote.
